Using non-Apple keyboard:

  • Command (⌘): Windows
  • Option (⌥): Alt

Startup Keys

  • F12: Eject disk
  • Command-R: MacOS Recovery system
  • Option-Command-R or Shift-Option-Command-R: Start from MacOS Recovery over the Internet
  • Option: Startup Manager, which allows you to choose other available startup disks or volumes
    • If no bootable volumes are found: white screen and pointer only
  • Option-Command-P-R: Reset NVRAM
  • Shift: Safe mode
  • D: Apple Diagnostics utility
    • Option-D to start up to this utility over the internet
  • N: Start up from a NetBoot server, if your Mac supports network startup volumes
    • Option-N: To use the default boot image on the server
  • Command-S: Start up in single-user mode (disabled in macOS Mojave or later)
  • T: Target disk mode
  • Command-V: Verbose mode
